Question:

226 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Finance the plans he has to remove the unauthorised surface car park located on Leinster Lawn at the Merrion Square side of Leinster House. [2473/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 225 and 226 together.

Tenders for the full refurbishment of Kildare House, which includes the construction of a crèche for the children of Oireachtas Members and staff, are under consideration at present. Construction is expected to start during the summer 2003 and be completed by summer 2004.

The Kildare House refurbishment necessitates the vacating of the Kildare House car park and pending completion of the refurbishment project, the car parking facilities lost will be provided temporarily on Leinster Lawn. The restoration of Leinster Lawn will be addressed after the completion of the Kildare House project.
