Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

243 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the quantity and cost of stationery used by his Department every year; and the proportion of that stationery which is recycled paper. [2508/03]

Between January and December 2002 my Department obtained 23,165 reams of photocopy and print paper, 500 pages per ream, at a cost of €64,169.47 and 255,500 letter heads which cost €8,183.49. This paper was not recycled as it needed to be of a higher quality than recycled paper.

My Department purchased approximately 1,500,000 envelopes between January and December 2002 at a cost of €33,675.26. The vast majority of envelopes used by the Department contain between 70% and 85% recycled pulp, depending on the particular envelope.

During the same period my Department obtained 47,750 buff printed manila file covers at a cost of €18,112.56. These file covers contain up to 80% recycled pulp. My Department is committed, wherever practicable, to increasing the use of recycled paper.
