Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Legislative Programme.

Enda Kenny

Question:

248 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science his legislative priorities for the remainder of the current Dáil; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2422/03]

I intend to bring forward legislation on a number of important matters during the life of this House.

The Education for Persons with Disabilities Bill will provide a statutory framework within which the education of children and people who have special educational needs because of disabilities can be guaranteed. I intend to seek Government approval in the next month for proposals arising from extensive consultations on the Bill and it is expected to be introduced to this House before Easter. Work is also progressing on the Grangegorman Development Agency Bill which will establish a statutory authority on the Dublin Docklands model to oversee the development of a campus for the Dublin Institute of Technology on the Grangegorman site.

I also intend to bring forward primary legislation to establish a Register of People who are considered unsafe to work with children and a Bill the aim of which will be to transfer responsibility for certain operational matters of institutes of technology to the Higher Education Authority.
