253 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of first year students who enrolled in third level colleges in the State in 1999 to 2002, inclusive; the number of those in the respective years who received maintenance grants; the total amount paid to those first year students in the years mentioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2273/03]
Data for the academic years 1999-00 and 2000-01, relating to the number of entrants to full-time third level courses in institutions aided by my Department, are set out in the following tabular statement. It also contains details of new maintenance grant awards for the academic years 1999-00, 2000-01 and 2001-02. Corresponding data in relation to the 2002-03 academic year is not available at present.
A breakdown of the maintenance grants payments, to indicate amounts paid in respect of first year students only, is not available. The expenditure incurred under each of the three third level maintenance grant schemes for the years 1999 to 2002, inclusive, is set out in the following tabular statement:
