Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Marine Tourism Development.

Michael Ring

Question:

291 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if funding has been sanctioned for a feasibility study at Milcum, Newport, applied for through the Newport Development Company under the marine tourism grant scheme; if this funding has been approved; and if so, when the money will be awarded [2513/03]

In March 2002, Mayo County Council submitted an application for funding for a feasibility study to examine the potential for a marine leisure facility at Milcum, Newport, under the marine tourism grant scheme of the national development plan.

The Deputy will, however, be aware that the Revised Estimates for 2003 included major adjustments in marine spending. The funds allocated to marine tourism in 2003 are already fully committed to a small number of flagship projects.

There will be no funds available for additional marine infrastructure projects under the NDP marine tourism grant scheme in 2003. Mayo County Council was informed of the position on 9 December last.
