Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Jerry Cowley

Question:

302 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress which is being made on the tender report received from the Western Health Board for the proposed new equipment for the screening room at Mayo General Hospital; if his attention has been drawn to the ongoing hardship and risk to the good health of Mayo people as a result of the failure to provide this essential service; if he can indicate when this service will be restored; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2307/03]

I refer the Deputy to my reply of 29 January 2003 which advised that the provision of medical services including the replacement of radiology equipment at Mayo General Hospital is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. I am advised that the board is purchasing the necessary equipment for the screening room at Mayo General Hospital as a matter of priority.

My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board to inform the Deputy directly of the progress regarding this operational matter.
