Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

369 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he intends to increase Garda strength in Leixlip-Celbridge and Maynooth, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2354/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, which are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources, that the current personnel strength – all ranks – of Maynooth and Celbridge Garda stations is 14 and 19, respectively. Maynooth and Celbridge are in the Carlow-Kildare Garda division. Leixlip is in the Dublin metropolitan region west division. The current personnel strength – all ranks – of Leixlip Garda station is 24. I am further informed that local Garda management in the respective stations is satisfied that the current personnel strength of the area is adequate to meet the present needs of the area.

However, the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next becomes available the needs of Leixlip/Celbridge and Maynooth will be fully considered within the context of the overall needs of Garda stations throughout the country.
