Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

446 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the quantity and cost of stationery used by his Department every year; and the proportion of that stationery which is recycled paper. [2506/03]

Since the establishment of my Department in June of last year to date a total of approximately €22,000 has been spent on stationery items. Approximately 25,000 file covers have been purchased along with a quantity of letterheads, business cards, complimentary slips and envelopes at a cost of approximately €15,000. All this material was produced from 100% recycled material. My Department is unable to directly provide accurate quantities of letterheads, business cards and complimentary slips purchased during the period in question.

During the transitional phase of the redistribution of departmental functions, records ordering this type of material relating to my Department and the other Departments receiving functions of the former Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands were not maintained separately. In the time available, it was not possible to identify from the records the quantity of this material that was specifically ordered for my Department.

In addition to the above material, 212 boxes of photocopying/printing paper and 160 boxes of computer listing paper have also been purchased at an approximate cost of €7,000.
