Written Answers. - Official Engagements.

John Bruton

Question:

179 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the name of the media group at a dinner (details supplied), which was paid from Exchequer funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter [2517/03]

I hosted a dinner at Government Buildings for the editorial staff and senior management of the News of the World on 22 January 2002.

I regularly meet media groups, both domestic and international, to discuss Government policy on a range of issues and in the case of foreign media to promote Irish interests abroad.

As Deputy Bruton will be aware, the News of the World is part of the News International Group which last year opened a major printing facility in Kells, County Meath, which employs 122 staff.
