Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Partnership Talks.

Seán Haughey

Question:

180 Mr. Haughey asked the Taoiseach if all written submissions from Government to the social partnership talks are available to Members of the Oireachtas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2587/03]

As the Deputy will be aware, I formally launched the talks on a successor agreement to the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness at the PPF plenary meeting in Dublin Castle held on 31 October last. Following on from this, an intensive series of bilateral and plenary meetings took place and, as with previous agreements, the proceedings are subject to normal confidentiality arrangements in order to protect the negotiating positions of all, including the Government side. For this reason, it would not be appropriate to release the written submissions from the Government side to the social partnership talks. However, each of the social partner pillars, including the Government side, has made clear on many occasions in the recent past its own priorities and concerns.

Arising from these negotiations, a composite set of proposals have now been agreed, in principle, and, subject to some further changes of a textual nature to be agreed, will be made available shortly.
