Vol. 560 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

243 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive a hearing aid. [2975/03]

The provision of community audiology services is a matter in the first instance for the Eastern Regional Health Authority, ERHA, and the health boards. Following the dissolution of the National Rehabilitation Board in June 2000, the responsibility for the provision of community audiology services throughout the regions was assigned initially to the Northern Area Health Board of the ERHA pending each health board taking over direct responsibility for the services within its own region. My Department has asked the regional chief executive of the ERHA to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
