Vol. 560 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funding of An Taisce.

Billy Timmins

Question:

290 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the funding his Department granted to an Taisce; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2845/03]

My Department provides funding to An Taisce to support a number of its activities.

Since 2001, funding of €69,835.59, £55,000, per annum is being provided to An Taisce for a period of three years to assist it in carrying out its functions as a prescribed body under the planning Acts. My Department also provides grant aid to An Taisce as a contribution towards the administration expenses of the blue flag scheme in Ireland, €63,475.30 in 2002, and co-finances the An Taisce-led anti-litter initiative, national spring clean, €250,000.00 in 2002.

In 2002 grants of €400.00 and €2,512.53 were also given to An Taisce to assist in the expense of attending environmental conferences.

In addition, An Taisce operating at local level would have received some grants from the environmental partnership fund, and indirectly through core funding to support the environmental NGO movement, which are financed through my Department.
