Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Youthreach Programme.

Mary Upton

Question:

288 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the proposed Youthreach for a location (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [3598/03]

At present the City of Dublin VEC provides education and training opportunities at the Youthreach centre, Pleasant Street, Dublin 8, for young persons aged between 15 and 20 who have left school early and without qualifications. The centre serves many young people from Dublin 8 and Dublin 6, for example, those from Charlemont Street, upper Rathmines and Crumlin. Exploratory discussions are under way between the City of Dublin VEC and the Dublin Institute of Technology on the possible transfer of the Pleasant Street property and a consequent move of the Youthreach centre to a new location, possibly Crumlin. No decisions have been made, however, and the VEC continues to operate the Youthreach programme at Pleasant Street.
