Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tribunals of Inquiry.

M. J. Nolan

Question:

477 Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the estimated cost to the State of all current tribunals of inquiry; the number of solicitors and barristers employed by the State and acting for individuals involved in each tribunal; and when he foresees each tribunal completing its work. [3700/03]

The tribunals of inquiry currently in operation are the responsibility of a number of different Departments.

In relation to the tribunals which fall under the responsibility of my Department, the information sought is not recorded centrally in my Department. It could only be compiled by the allocation of a large amount of scarce staffing resources which would have to be diverted from other important work and, therefore, would not be warranted.

I cannot speculate when each tribunal will feel it has completed its work.
