Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

Mary Wallace

Question:

489 Ms M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason the housing aid for the elderly scheme does not include provision of a granny flat attached to a son or daughter's house; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3227/03]

The special housing aid for the elderly scheme was established to provide assistance, by way of necessary emergency repairs, to improve conditions in the existing housing of elderly persons living alone in unfit or insanitary conditions. The scheme does not provide additional accommodation for elderly persons and there are no proposals to extend it to include such provision.
