Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Security of the Elderly.

Dan Boyle

Question:

509 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the supports, by organisation and location, given by his Department to bodies dealing with the care and advancement of senior citizens. [3773/03]

My Department has responsibility for the administration of the scheme of community support for older people which provides funding for initiatives to improve the security and social support of vulnerable older people. Under the terms of the scheme, grant aid is available towards the once-off costs of purchase and/or installation of small-scale physical security equipment and socially monitored alarm systems.

The names and addresses of all organisations funded under the scheme up to 2001 are available in the Oireachtas Library for the information of members. Details of organisations funded in 2002 will be made available shortly. Invitations to apply for funding under this scheme in 2003 will be advertised in the national and local papers later in the year.
