Question:

163 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Health and Children the total amount paid or due to each hospital here in respect of private treatment purchased in respect of the national treatment purchase fund; the total amount paid or due to each hospital or health authority outside the State in respect of treatment purchased; the total amount paid to date in respect of travelling costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Arising from the health strategy Quality and Fairness: A Health System for You, one of the key actions for dealing with public hospital waiting lists was the establishment of the national treatment purchase fund – NTPF. The NTPF was set up in April 2002 and referred its first patients for treatment at the end of June. A total of 1,920 patients received treatment under the NTPF initiative in 2002.

To the end of December 2002, hospitals have been paid, as set out in the following table, on invoices presented:
