Marian Harkin

Question:

209 Ms Harkin asked the Minister for Finance the number and cost of personnel involved in his Department in media, media marketing and public relations activities, including external public relations and media monitoring services in the periods 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2001, 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2002 and 1 January 2003 to date. [3997/03]

I take it the Deputy is requesting information in relation to personnel of my Department who are involved in the activities set out in the question. I further take it the Deputy is not referring to the staff in the euro changeover board who were engaged in organising public information, PR and advertising campaigns about the euro. In my Department dealings with the media are primarily the responsibility of the press and information office. The office is staffed by four people. Details of the salary payments to present and past incumbents are set out as follows. For ease of reference, all figures are shown in euro.

In addition staff of the Department are from time to time involved in briefing and information events. For example, quarterly briefings on the Exchequer Returns are held by staff of the Department. However, this is ancillary to, and not a core part, of their regular duties.
