Vol. 561 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rural Development Plan.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

243 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if Ireland is meeting in full its commitments under the CAP rural development plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3918/03]

To date Ireland has largely met its commitments under the forestry chapter of the CAP rural development plan. The plan contains a provision allowing for a mid-term review which is currently under way. Expenditure under the plan over the period of the National Development Plan 2000-2006 is also, in general, on target to maximise the drawdown of EU funding. It is recognised however that expenditure must be maintained at a level that respects the public expenditure ceiling set by the Government and takes account of wider budgetary priorities.
