Question:

60 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of cattle slaughtered in meat plants in 2002; the number of live cattle and sheep exports in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3867/03]

Total cattle slaughterings at Irish export premises amounted to 1.67 million head in 2002 representing a decrease of 6.7% on the 2001 level. A total of 126,025 live cattle were exported in 2002 with Spain, Northern Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Lebanon being the main destinations. A total of 3,424 live sheep were exported that year to France, Spain, Italy and Belgium.
