Dan Boyle

Question:

208 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Education and Science the number and location of schools built under public-private partnerships. [4936/03]

The contract for the provision of a bundle of five post-primary schools was signed in November 2001 with Jarvis Projects Limited. The schools are Maria Immaculata Community College, Dunmanway, County Cork, Ballincollig Community School, Ballincollig, County Cork, St. Attracta's Community School, Tubbercurry, County Sligo, Largy College, Clones, County Monaghan and St. Caimin's Community School, Shannon, County Clare.

All five schools were handed over to my Department within schedule by the end of 2002.

Question:

209 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Education and Science the projected end cost to the Exchequer of each PPP project entered into by his Department. [4937/03]

My Department has entered into two PPPs to date. Both of them have been procured on a design, build, finance and operate basis on a 25 year contract.

The first project was for the provision of a bundle of five post-primary schools. The annual unitary payment is €10.122 million. The payment includes provision for the repayment of the capital cost of the project, including furniture, fittings and school equipment, the operation of the schools and the maintenance of the schools. The figure reduces to €9.716 million after year three. The net present value of the project over 25 years is €126.06 million.

Last Thursday I signed the contract for the provision of a new national maritime college in Ringaskiddy, County Cork. The annual unitary payment will be €8.8 million commencing in late 2004 and decreasing to under €4 million for the last five years of the contract. The net present value over the 25 years of the contract is just under €93 million.
