Question:

217 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if the feasibility study has been carried out into the viability of a ferry service linking Achill Island with the Erris Peninsula in County Mayo; the person who carried out the feasibility study; if it was done under Údarás na Gaeltachta or Mayo County Council; if either organisation paid for it; the finding of the feasibility study; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4907/03]

The feasibility study of the potential for a ferry service linking Achill Island to the Erris Peninsula has been completed. It was undertaken by Tourism and Transport Consult Limited in association with Marine Development Limited and paid for by my Department.

I intend to have the study made available shortly, including on my Department's website. I will also invite interested persons or organisations to make a written submission, or submit written comments or observations, on the completed study.
