Vol. 561 No. 5

Written Answers. - Iraq Crisis.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

166 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the extent to which he has liaised with his European colleagues in an effort to obtain consensus in the present security crisis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5002/03]

The current security crisis is a matter of serious concern for the Government. However, the matter is a foreign relations issue and, therefore, comes under the responsibility of my colleague the Minister for Foreign Affairs. I have, therefore, had no consultations with other EU Defence Ministers on the matter. Deputies will of course be aware of the efforts undertaken by the Taoiseach and the Minister for Foreign Affairs both of whom attended the emergency EU summit in Brussels earlier this week.
