Vol. 561 No. 6

Written Answers - Decentralisation Programme.

Brendan Smith

Question:

85 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Finance if consideration will be given to Cavan as a centre for decentralisation in view of the importance of decentralisation to the promotion of regional development for the Border region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5131/03]

The Government is committed to moving forward the progressive decentralisation of Government offices and agencies. As I have said on many occasions, there is a wide range of important issues that must be taken into consideration, including development for the Border region within the national spatial strategy and it is not possible for me to state at this time when the Government will be in a position to take a decision on the issue of decentralisation. However, all of the numerous submissions and cases made to my Department, including that received from and on behalf of Cavan, will be given full consideration in these deliberations.
