Vol. 561 No. 6

Written Answers - Traffic Management.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

125 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason he has not approved funding for traffic management measures on Barnhill Road, Dalkey, County Dublin, for which Dún LaoghaireRathdown County Council had applied under the low cost traffic management grant allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5101/03]

Dún LaoghaireRathdown County Council submitted four projects totalling €105,000 for funding under the low cost safety improvement grants scheme in 2003, including the Barnhill Road, Dalkey project.

These projects, together with all applications under this scheme were considered by my Department having regard to their compliance with the eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the low cost safety improvement grants scheme in 2003.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council received €45,000 for two projects under the low cost safety improvement grants scheme for 2003, however, the Barnhill Road, Dalkey project was not selected for grant aid.

It is open to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to make an application for funding for this scheme for 2004 in response to my Department's request for applications which will issue later this year.
