Vol. 562 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Deasy – that the Minister provide funding to Waterford County Council to assist it in cleaning up the area formerly known as the Tannery site in Portlaw, County Waterford which has become a landfill of untreated industrial and hazardous waste and bearing in mind its close proximity to the River Clodagh which supplies the east Waterford water supply; (2) Deputy Seán Ryan – the difficulty in operating Part V of the Planning and Development Act 2000 arising from Department of the Environment and Local Government's circulars in respect of income limit for eligibility for local authority loans, loan limits of €130,000 and the reluctance of the commercial lending institutions to accept the required clawback provisions of the scheme which have all resulted in eligible applicants under the scheme being unable to secure loans; (3) Deputy O'Dowd – discussion of the findings of the health research board report published today which was commissioned by the Department of the Environment and Local Government into the health and environmental effects of landfilling and incineration of waste; (4) Deputy Tom Hayes – the need for the Minister for Health and Children to clarify proposed plans for the withdrawal of maternity services from St. Joseph's Hospital in Clonmel, County Tipperary; (5) Deputy Gilmore – the implications of the Supreme Court ruling on the M50-Carrickmines Castle situation; (6) Deputy Gormley – discussion of the reason no speech therapist has been employed in Ballinteer Community School despite a promise from the Eastern Regional Health Authority in a letter dated 7 May 2002 and the reason the Minister for Health and Children has not taken steps to date to investigate the contradictory responses from the health board; (7) Deputy Enright – that the House calls upon the Minister for Education and Science to confirm how and when he intends to proceed with the new post primary schools for the CBS Portlaoise and Scoil Chríost Rí Portlaoise; (8) Deputy Coveney – to ask the Minister for Education and Science if he intends to sanction the commencement of the promised public private partnership project to build a new school of music in Cork; (9) Deputy Deenihan – the crisis facing providers of services for pupils with medical disabilities in County Kerry because of a shortfall of €400,000 in funding for 2005 which will result in the non provision of training places for those leaving school in June and additional respite resources for the families of children with special needs; and (10) Deputy Neville – the provision of a radiotherapy service in the Mid-Western Health Board area.

The matters raised by Deputies Enright, Gormley, Neville and Gilmore have been selected for discussion.
