Dáil Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 25 Feb 2003

Vol. 562 No. 1

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 and I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention: the threatened industrial action by hospital consultants arising from the unilateral action of the Minister for Health and Children to proceed with the indemnity scheme for doctors without proper consultation; and the need to ensure that patients do not suffer as a result of such actions.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the uncertainties surrounding the sanctioning and commencement of the promised public private partnership project to build a new school of music in Cork city, which will be European city of culture in 2005.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, namely, following the publication of a White Paper in Britain outlining its future energy policy, that we discuss how to redouble our lobbying, our legal initiatives and campaigning against Sellafield and Britain's dirty nuclear industry to decrease the staggering level of cancer deaths on our east coast arising from Sellafield's radioactive emissions, which are the cause of so much pain and suffering.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss an issue of national importance, namely, the potential for violation of Irish citizens' privacy and data protection rights inherent in the new US-EU deal which forces trans-Atlantic airlines such as Aer Lingus to provide US authorities with the names, addresses, phone numbers, itineraries and credit card details of all passengers from 5 March 2003.

Having considered all the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 31.
