Vol. 562 No. 1

Written Answers - Mental Health Services.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

367 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Health and Children if extra funding will be provided for a targeted campaign of information and help to people at risk from depression and other mental health problems in view of the significant increase in young people committing suicide in the community; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5219/03]

The health promotion unit of my Department does not at present have any plans to launch an information campaign on mental health but this matter will be considered in terms of the 2004 business plan. The unit does however, provide support and funding to a number of mental health organisations, such as Mental Health Ireland, Grow, Aware and Schizophrenia Ireland, for their health promotion initiatives.
