Vol. 562 No. 1

Written Answers - Consultant Appointments.

Brendan Smith

Question:

368 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children if the proposal to appoint an accident and emergency consultant in Cavan General Hospital has been approved by Comhairle na nOspidéal; if so, when this post will be advertised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5230/03]

Comhairle na nOspidéal is the statutory body with responsibility for regulating the number and type of appointments of consultant medical staff in hospitals providing services under the Health Acts.

My Department is advised by Comhairle na nOspidéal that the consultant post referred to by the Deputy was approved on 19 February 2003. The selection and recruitment procedures for this post are a matter for the North-Eastern Health Board and the Local Appointments Commission.
