Vol. 562 No. 1

Written Answers - Community Wardens.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

471 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if and when he will establish the rank of community warden to give the opportunity to traffic and litter warden personnel of a more positive role and a better future for themselves and their family; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5385/03]

The pilot community warden service was launched in five local authorities in February 2002 and will run to the end of 2004. The pilot authorities are Galway, Leitrim and Wexford County Councils, Galway City Council and Naas Town Council. A full evaluation of the service will be undertaken towards the end of the pilot period next year and all relevant issues, including those raised in the question, will be assessed in that context.
