Vol. 562 No. 1

Written Answers - Support for the Elderly.

Mary Upton

Question:

485 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the number of pendant alarms allocated under the scheme for community support for older people for each year that the scheme is in operation. [5488/03]

My Department has responsibility for the administration of the scheme of community support for older people. Under this scheme, funding is directed through voluntary groups towards the provision of socially monitored alarms and small-scale physical security equipment, to older vulnerable people in the community.

My Department does not hold data on the number of pendant alarms provided since the commencement of the scheme. However, details of all funding, listing the number of applicant groups and the number of beneficiaries under the scheme since its commencement is available in the Oireachtas Library for the information of the members. Details of grant payments made in 2002 are currently being finalised and will be made available in the Oireachtas Library very shortly.
