Vol. 562 No. 2

Written Answers - Prison Transfers.

Tony Gregory

Question:

220 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a person (details supplied) is being considered for a transfer to Shelton Abbey. [5723/03]

The person concerned is serving a three-year sentence, with the last year suspended, for arson. He is currently accommodated in Mountjoy Prison and allowing for normal remission, will be due for release on 24 December 2003.

I have given careful consideration to this request for transfer to Shelton Abbey. In view of the nature of his offence, I am not prepared to approve a transfer to an open centre for this offender at this stage of his sentence. However, I can assure the Deputy that his case will be kept under review.
