Written Answers - Ministerial Appointments.

Michael Ring

Question:

240 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the persons he has appointed to State boards; the name of each board since June 2002; and the names of the people appointed to the State boards. [5783/03]

In response to the Deputy's query, I wish to confirm that I have made no appointments to State boards since June 2002.

However, for the Deputy's information, appointments have been made to An Foras Teanga, a North-South Implementation Body under the aegis of my Department, which was established under the Implementation Bodies Agreement of 8 March 1999 made between the British and Irish Governments and incorporated into domestic law in this jurisdiction by the British Irish Agreement Act, 1999. The appointments were made under the terms of the Agreement of 19 November 2002 between the two Governments and the British Irish Agreement (Amendment) Act, 2002, whereby decisions of the North-South Ministerial Council on policies and actions relating to the North-South Bodies or their respective functions, shall be taken by the two Governments temporarily, pending restoration of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
