Vol. 562 No. 2

Written Answers - Film Industry Development.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

191 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the incentives available or contemplated to encourage film making here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5915/03]

Primary responsibility for the development of film making in Ireland rests with the Irish Film Board, which operates under the aegis of my Department, and is independent in the context of its day to day operations. Details of the incentives provided by the Irish Film Board can be obtained directly from the board.

Section 481 of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997, provides a fiscal incentive to taxpayers to invest in film production. The scheme allows tax relief on investments in film projects certified under the Act. Further information can be seen on the Irish Film Board's website at www.filmboard.ie.
