Vol. 562 No. 2

Written Answers - Orphanage Funding.

Seán Haughey

Question:

200 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department has information on file regarding financial assistance given by the State to an orphanage in Rathdrum for the care of a person (details supplied) from 1967 onwards; if this is a matter for a health board; if so, the relevant health board; the section in this health board which should be contacted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5720/03]

My Department is setting up a project called Access to Institutional and Related Records, AIRR, to archive the record holdings of the Department relating to institutional care for children. This will include an index of individual children named in these records. As the index develops the records of the person (details supplied) will be checked against it and my Department will contact the Deputy directly if any records are found.

I understand that the Eastern Regional Health Authority has been in touch with the Northern Area Health Board in relation to the information sought. The authority has been advised that the child care services section of the Northern Area Health Board has carried out an extensive search of its available records and has found no reference to the person (details supplied) being in care at St. Kyran's Home, Rathdrum, County Wicklow.

The Eastern Regional Health Authority has informed me that in the event of any further information such as details of the person's other place(s) of residence being supplied by the Deputy to the regional chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority, Mill Lane, Palmerstown, Dublin 20, in respect of the individual, a more expanded search will be undertaken.
