Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Question:

136 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has had contacts with the management of the Dublin Institute of Technology in relation to its plans to reduce the number of part-time students enrolled for music and drama studies to a quarter the number enrolled in 1995, from 2,600 to 800 students; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6005/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 134 and 136 together.

The Dublin Institute of Technology is a statutory body established under the Dublin Institute of Technology Act 1992. Under that Act, the governance and day to day activities of the institute are matters for which the governing body and the management staff of the institute are responsible. This includes decisions in relation to the operation and management of the Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and Drama.
