Emmet Stagg

Question:

137 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 433 of 29 January 2003, if his attention has been drawn to the commitment given by his predecessor in relation to the covered walkway; if he will consider funding same from the post-primary contingency fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6006/03]

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

162 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in regard to the completion of the covered walkway at Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare; if the proposal is likely to be completed in 2003; if the necessary finance is available for this purpose; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6068/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 137 and 162 together.

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

Tenders in respect of the provision of the covered walkway at Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare, have been received. However, on the basis of budgetary allocation it was not possible to include it in the new projects to start construction in 2003.

The purpose of the post primary contingency fund is for extreme emergency works only. Therefore, it must be appreciated that this fund will not be used to finance the proposed covered walkway. The project will be considered again in the context of the 2004 school building programme.
