Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Religious Orders' Property.

Joe Costello

Question:

239 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education and Science if the buildings belonging to the Christian Brothers on Parnell Square were part of the deal done between the Government and the religious orders on 5 June 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6173/03]

The State has a period of nine months from 5 June 2002 to consider whether to accept or reject each of the properties offered by the religious congregations to the State under the terms of the indemnity agreement. The property aspect of the agreement is still being considered by officials at my Department and is the subject of ongoing negotiations with the legal representative of CORI. Due to these negotiations and commercial considerations, I do not propose to give details of any of the properties offered at this stage. When the property aspect of the agreement has been concluded details will be made available.
