Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

243 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science his plans to increase the number of full-time posts in special schools and programmes to address the problems of teachers who hold temporary part-time posts for several years with little hope of being made permanent in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6218/03]

Allocations of full-time and part-time teaching posts to cater for children with special educational needs are made in response to the level of assessed needs involved and having regard to prevailing pupil/teacher ratios. I am committed to ensuring the ongoing delivery of appropriate support services for such children.
