Question:

262 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 301 of 18 February 2003, if a rental commitment was made that the learning support resource room would commence construction in December 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6373/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 259 to 262, inclusive, together.

The position on the school in question is that my Department advised the board of management to authorise its design team to proceed to the tender documentation stage of the proposed project subject to certain conditions. The board of management has subsequently submitted tenders for the proposed works. My Department will be in contact with the school shortly in relation to this matter. The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects that could not be included in this year's school building programme.

Seán Crowe

Question:

263 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a site for permanent accommodation has been offered to Gaelscoil na Camoige in Clondalkin by Muintir Chronain, situated next to the site the school currently inhabits, that his Department outsourced the acquisition of the site to the Office of Public Works and that the offer is open only until the end of 2003; if his attention has further been drawn to the poor temporary facilities that the school is forced to operate in; and if he will make a statement on his Department's plans to purchase the site before the deadline expires. [6374/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to make provision for the purchase of a site for Gaelscoil na Camoige during 2003. The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects and site acquisitions that could not be included in this year's programme.

Denis Naughten

Question:

264 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science if funding will be approved for the science block extension to St. Joseph's College, Summerhill, Athlone, County Roscommon; the status of the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6386/03]

The 2003 capital programme has been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. The project at St. Joseph's College, Summerhill, Athlone is at an advanced stage of architectural planning – pre-tender stage. However, given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects on the capital programme, it will not be possible to allow further large scale projects, including that at St. Joseph's College, to proceed this year. The project will be considered for the 2004 school building programme.

Question No. 265 answered with Question No. 224.
