Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Mental Hospitals Report.

Dan Boyle

Question:

313 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Health and Children if public access to the reports of the Inspector of Mental Hospitals can and will be made available; and if the reports from 1990 can be made available. [6152/03]

In accordance with the provisions of section 247 and section 248 of the Mental Treatment Act 1945 the Inspector of Mental Hospitals prepares and presents a report to me each year on psychiatric hospitals and services and the care of patients therein. This report is then laid before each House of the Oireachtas. Copies of the report may be purchased from the Government publications office or alternatively the report can be freely accessed on the web-site of the Department of Health and Children at www.doh.ie.

I am aware that copies of the inspector's report in respect of some of the years since 1990 are no longer available from the Government Publications Sales Office. I have therefore made arrangements within my Department for copies of the relevant extracts of interest to individuals to be made available on request.
