Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Naturalisation Applications.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

386 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a decision will be made in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Louth regarding IBC; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6189/03]

An application for permission to remain in the State based on parentage of an Irish-born child was received from the person concerned on 22 August 2002. Applications of the type referred to by the Deputy are not being processed at present, following the Supreme Court decision of 23 January 2003. The Government has yet to determine the general policy to be adopted in respect of such applications, of which more than 11,000 have not been finally determined.
