Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Garda Procurement.

Paddy McHugh

Question:

400 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the Garda Síochána will complete the purchase of a horse from a person (details supplied) in County Galway as already verbally agreed. [6379/03]

The Garda authorities have informed me that prior to any procurement arrangements or agreements being made regarding the purchase of a horse for the Garda mounted unit, a six week trial period, including veterinary examinations, with nominated horses is conducted by the unit. While there has been a number of recent nominations, no agreement to purchase has been made in any particular case prior to the completion of this trial period and final veterinary examination. I have been further informed by the Garda authorities that there was no agreement to purchase the horse referred to in the Deputy's question.
