Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Youth Services.

Finian McGrath

Question:

420 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs his views on correspondence (details supplied) from the Donnycarney Youth Project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6483/03]

The project referred to in the question is one of those in the Dublin North-East Development Group's proposals for projects to be funded under round two of the young people's facilities and services fund. The fund aims to assist in the development of youth facilities, including sport and recreational facilities, and services in disadvantaged areas where a significant drug problem exists or has the potential to develop. The objective of the fund is to attract young people in disadvantaged areas who are at risk into these facilities and activities and to divert them away from the dangers of substance misuse. The fund's national assessment committee, which is chaired by my Department, is finalising its consideration of the facilities and projects submitted under round two of the fund with a view to making recommendations to the Cabinet committee on social inclusion shortly.
