Michael Ring

Question:

431 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the amount of money paid out for the first six months of each year, for the past five years, to dentists under the dental treatment scheme. [6144/03]

Total expenditure under the dental treatment scheme for each of the past five years, as well as the amount which was spent in the first six months of each year, is outlined in the following table:

Year

Total Expenditure

Amount paid in first six months

1998

€29,019,650

€13,258,670

1999

€33,492,430

€15,390,600

2000

€35,492,700

€16,420,510

2001

€35,000,270

€16,330,030

2002

€35,122,710

€18,880,620

An estimated additional €1 million would have been paid in the second half of 2002 if the annual review of fees for 2002 had been agreed in time.
