Vol. 562 No. 5

Written Answers - Tobacco-Related Diseases.

Liz McManus

Question:

282 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the budget allocated to the Research Institute for a Tobacco Free Society - which he launched in 2000 - in 2001, 2002 and 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6595/03]

Funding for research into tobacco is included in the annual allocation for the Office of Tobacco Control, which is a trustee of the research institute. No individual allocation has yet been made to the institute. Research activity sponsored by the Office for Tobacco Control since its establishment in 2000 has included a major survey on smoking and public attitudes on prohibitions on smoking, and scientific studies on the effects on health of environmental tobacco smoke in the workplace.
