Vol. 562 No. 5

Written Answers - Diplomatic Representation.

Paul McGrath

Question:

145 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the work and projects being undertaken by the Irish Consulates in Cardiff and Edinburgh. [6564/03]

Since the Consulates General in Edinburgh and Cardiff were opened in 1998, they have been involved in a broad range of activities supporting the continuing positive development of bilateral relations with Scotland and Wales since devolution. These include: representing Ireland's trade, investment, culture and tourism interests in close co-operation with other Government Departments and State agencies; providing consular services; and promoting opportunities to strengthen bilateral contacts, in particular through the facilitation of visits and exchanges at a number of levels. In addition, the consulates play a key role in supporting the Government's work and co-operation with Scotland and Wales as members of the British-Irish Council established under the Good Friday Agreement.
