Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - ESB Charges.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

371 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the exorbitant charges being quoted by the ESB for connection to the national grid to the developers of wind farms (details supplied); and the steps he will take to ensure that the ESB facilitates the development of green energy. [7222/03]

I have no statutory function in relation to the specific terms and conditions of grid connection agreements. Section 34 (6) of the Electricity Regulation Act 1999 (No. 23 of 1999), as last amended, provides that in the event of a dispute with either ESB Networks or ESB National Grid over connection charges, the applicant may apply to the Commission for Energy Regulation for a determination on the matter and that the Commission's decision is binding.
