Question:

431 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the rate of medical inflation here for each year since 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7288/03]

Based on information supplied by the Central Statistics Office, the rate of medical inflation over the period is set out in the following table. Medical inflation is calculated by the Central Statistics Office by reference to a basket of items which includes medical products, appliances and equipment, pharmaceutical products, prescribed drugs, out-patient services, medical services, dental services, paramedical services and hospital services.
