Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - Medical Cards.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

440 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the degree to which the cost of blood tests are passed on to the holder of a medical card; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7403/03]

I understand that the Deputy is referring to blood tests provided in both the general practice and hospital settings. Since information about the protocol applicable in either location is not kept by my Department, the matter has been referred to the health boards/authority for direct reply to the Deputy.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

441 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children when medical cards will be issued to persons (details supplied) in County Kildare, who have been approved over 11 months ago and who despite several requests have not received these cards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7404/03]

Responsibility for the provision of medical cards is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health authority. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him.
